Human Resource Development new trends
Training and Development
Human
resource development trends are influenced by dynamics such as socio economics,
globalization and technological changes which are here to stay with us. These
dynamics impact learning and development due to volatility of markets,
worldwide recession. Academics talk of the boon and bane of learning and
development although it takes a center stage in Human Resource Management and
Development (Putta, 2014)
Impact of Technology in Learning
and Development
Is
the training cost reducing today due to decrease of travel, accommodation, food
and reduction in flights as technological changes enable learning via website,
online, mobile devices, use of computers? Is a view some academics share?
However, this may not necessarily be true although technology has evolved as
often training has to be centralized, with groups and there should be a trainer
in location although we carry out computer based learning (Putta, 2014), Global
firms although they use technology extensively one industry leader from FedEx
suggest that often employees have to be route to centralized regional classroom
even for training as still often trainers/ experts are needed.
Competency Based Training and
Psychometrics
Dynamics
of learning and development have evolved too employers are increasing demanding
Competency Based Training so that a common reference is available in
understanding standards along with National Vocational Certification and testing.
While testing centres are common in developed countries in Sri Lanka certainly
does not have testing centres. Employers are also depending on psychometric
test increasing in hiring employees this is another modern change in learning
and development (Overton and Dixon 2016)
These new trends are
considered important and strategic to practice of HRM/D and they are new
trends.
Learning
and development is evolving with the evolving trends in human resource
management and development caused due to staff shortages globally, increase in
demand for talent pools and increase in use of contingency employee. Furthermore,
Jaldeen (2016) suggests that there are Changes to Work, Workforce and Work
Place a integrated approach to HR since 2013 in UK including Agile HR
practices, Better Data and Human Capital Information, Better leadership,
Sustainable Employee motivation, compensation, rewards and awards
(CIPD-Megatrends, 2013)
